Douglas Wins Agriculturist Award
Cody Douglas is Elginıs Outstanding Agriculturist for the year 2004.
Douglas lives just west of Elgin on a 225-acre ranch with his wife, the
former Leah Martin of Elgin and their two young sons, Brady and Addison.
They settled there in the Kimbro community in 1993.
A West Texan by birth, Douglas transferred his love of agriculture and
agricultural interests to the rolling hills of pasture. That pasture is home
to 35 cows, 15 yearling bulls and 10 heifers.
Douglas learned all about cattle, ranching and roping from his father and
grandfather on a ranch just north of Lubbock.
Douglas has continued to focus on important qualities, such as growth, easy
fleshing, calving ease and clean underlines, through AI technology and
natural breeding. He raises some of the areaıs top quality Brangus and Angus
Plus bulls and replacement heifers.
After wintering his fatherıs registered Brangus bulls on oat pasture at his
home place, Douglas serves as the marketing and sales force for both the
West Texas and Central Texas locations.
While attending Texas Tech University, Douglas worked as a ranch hand on the
famous Yellow House ranch in West Texas. He continues his love of team
roping today and actively competes on the amateur circuit.
In addition to his agricultural interest in Travis County, he also owns a
900-acre ranch of native pastureland in Bailey County, is a member of the
International Brangus Breeders Association, National Cattlemanıs Association
and various team roping associations.
An active member, officer and vocalist with the First United Methodist
Church of Elgin, Douglas is a member of the Advisory Board for Cattlemen for
Cancer Research. He is a member of the singing group, The Blackland Four and
enjoys playing golf.
Douglas is a Certified Public Accountant and works full time for Texas
Enterprises in Austin.
Douglası dream is to be a full time rancher after his retirement in the
future.
